Getting the Love You Want weekend workshops offer couples a structured, supportive space to deepen connection, improve communication, and understand each other in a whole new way.
Drawing on many years of hands-on clinical practice with couples, Nicole guides you through a proven relationship framework grounded in evidence-based psychology and real-life experience. Many couples describe the workshop as the equivalent of three to six months of couples therapy, condensed into one powerful weekend.
These workshops are designed to feel safe, practical, and empowering, helping you move forward with clarity, confidence, and renewed hope for your relationship.

The Getting the Love You Want workshop is based on the internationally recognised work of Harville Hendrix and is offered worldwide to couples who want to build healthy, committed, and loving relationships.
I now offer these workshops in Wānaka and Wellington, with couples travelling from across Aotearoa New Zealand to attend.
Whether your relationship is strong and you want to deepen it, or you’re navigating challenges and feeling stuck in repeating patterns, this weekend offers practical tools and a new way forward.
Why this
workshop works
Understand the deeper reasons you were drawn to each other
Recognise why certain patterns or conflicts keep repeating
Learn what actually builds trust, connection, and emotional intimacy
Develop communication skills that reduce escalation and increase understanding
Create a shared vision for the relationship you want to build
Practise tools you can use immediately in everyday life

The workshop blends learning with hands-on practice in a way that feels safe, structured, and supportive:
Short teaching sessions
Individual reflection and written exercises
Live demonstrations of communication tools
Guided conversations with your partner
Gentle, nurturing activities that strengthen connection
You’ll work privately with your partner throughout the weekend. There is no required group sharing, and your relationship is treated with care, confidentiality, and respect.
By the end of the weekend, couples often report:
A deeper understanding of what long-term relationships truly need
Tools to break old cycles and communicate without escalation
Skills to express frustrations, desires, and needs in a constructive way
A framework for deeper intimacy, trust, closeness, and renewed romance
A renewed sense of possibility and a practical plan for moving forward
These workshops are considered relationship education, not therapy, though many couples find the experience deeply healing and transformative.

This workshop is designed to support couples in all stages of their journey:
New relationships wanting to establish healthy communication habits
Committed couples looking to deepen an already positive relationship
Couples experiencing ongoing conflict or disconnection
Relationships recovering from ruptures such as affairs, grief, or major life transitions
Couples who feel unsure about whether to stay together and want clarity
Parents or partners in transition (e.g. relocation, co-parenting, blended families)
No matter where you’re starting from, couples typically leave with greater understanding, more compassion for each other, and renewed confidence in how to move forward together.
It’s completely normal to feel unsure about signing up for a relationship workshop. You might be wondering whether it’s the right fit, whether it will feel safe, or whether it will truly help with what you’re facing.
Below are some of the most common concerns couples share with me before attending. If you see yourself in any of these, you’re not alone.
It makes sense to think one-to-one therapy would be more targeted. The reality is that many couples enter private sessions without first learning how to talk to each other in a way that feels safe and productive. Without those core skills, it’s easy to repeat the same communication patterns, both in sessions and at home.
In the workshop, you learn practical tools that help you express frustration safely, stay on track, and truly hear one another. When couples later choose private sessions, they often progress faster and need them less frequently because they already have a stronger foundation.
There is no requirement to share personal details with the group. All exercises and conversations happen privately between you and your partner, in your own space.
Couples attend from all over New Zealand, and no one knows why another couple is there. The focus is on learning practical relationship skills and tools that every couple needs (including my own marriage). Most people feel at ease very quickly.
When things feel fragile, it’s natural to worry about making them worse. The workshop begins by normalising that all relationships face challenges. Whether you’re feeling mild disconnection or navigating a crisis, the tools are designed to calm reactivity and create safety.
Even couples who arrive feeling stuck or on the brink often leave with renewed hope and a clearer sense of how to move forward together.
This is one of the most common concerns. Sometimes it helps to take a smaller first step, like a one-off phone call or email exchange to explore what each of you wants and what might feel manageable.
Partners are often more open than we expect, especially when they understand this is about learning practical skills, not assigning blame.
This is an understandable concern, but it rarely happens.
If it does happen, confidentiality applies to everyone equally. Most couples quickly realise they're simply two partnerships investing in stronger relationship skills which is something to respect, not judge.
The material is grounded in real-life examples and practical exercises you can use immediately. Couples consistently describe it as relatable, clear, and directly relevant to their own relationship.
You’ll leave understanding why you get stuck, what’s happening in those moments, and what to do differently together.
Life is full, especially with young children. I work flexibly with couples to make this achievable. Some attend one day of a workshop (Saturday) and complete the second day (Sunday) later in the year. Others practise the exercises at home between weekends, sometimes with additional private coaching support.
If payment is a concern, I’m happy to arrange installments. My goal is to make this accessible and workable within your circumstances.
