Helping couples build stronger,

more connected relationships.

repair begins with responsibility

With more than 28 years’ experience as a Registered Clinical Psychologist, I support individuals, couples, and families to navigate life’s challenges with care, insight, and practical tools.

My work is grounded in evidence-based psychology, delivered in a way that feels supportive, collaborative, and reassuring.

I believe that struggle, whether personal or relational, is a normal part of being human. With the right support, it can become a gateway to deeper understanding, stronger relationships, and lasting change.

Hello,

I’m Dr Nicole Pray!

Registered Clinical Psychologist

My doctoral training and research was in the United States, where I began working with attachment patterns in military and civilian couples undergoing the impacts of past trauma on their relationships. Serving veterans at a nationally recognised trauma centre underscored my passion for bringing healing for those facing PTSD, anxiety, depression, addictions, and complex life transitions. Over the years, I’ve worked across hospitals, private practice, wilderness-based leadership programmes, Te Whatu Ora, and now in my own practice here in beautiful New Zealand.

My work is about educating and equipping others to experience real and lasting change in their daily lives. With couples, I understand the power of connection when both partners feel safe. It’s about creating the conditions of emotional safety so that partners can rediscover the spark that brought them together in the first place.

My work is informed not only by my professional training, but also by what I’ve learned in my own marriage and I love sharing tools that genuinely make a difference. I currently work with clients throughout New Zealand via Zoom as well as in-person in Wanaka and Wellington.

My approach

& philosophy

There’s a common belief that relationships should be easy. In reality, conflict, stress, disconnection, and change are all part of being human and part of being in a long-term relationship. My role is to help people understand their patterns, build awareness, and develop practical skills that support connection, resilience, and growth.

Clients often tell me they feel more grounded, confident, and better equipped to navigate challenges after working together. I place a strong emphasis on education and empowerment, so you understand the why behind what we’re doing and can take those insights into everyday life.

Change is possible,

with the right support and tools.

You don’t have to keep having the same conversations or facing the same challenges on repeat.

conflict is growth trying to happen

Working together

My sessions are collaborative, respectful, and tailored to your needs. Whether you’re seeking individual support, relationship guidance, or structured learning through workshops, my focus is on helping you move forward with clarity and confidence.

If you’re curious about whether working together feels like the right fit, you’re welcome to get in touch. I’m happy to answer questions and help you explore the options that best support you.

“Having a shared understanding that our conflicts can bring us closer instead of farther apart, practicing the tools to actually do that, and getting personal coaching on how to overcome the hard parts… gave me more hope for our relationship than I’ve felt for 3 years.”
